Program Overview


Introduction to the University Program

The University of Ljubljana offers a comprehensive program in veterinary medicine, focusing on the reproduction of dogs and cats. This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students of veterinary medicine who wish to deepen their knowledge of small animal reproduction.


Program Objectives

The program aims to provide an intensive overview of all important reproductive aspects, based on interactive, individual, and practical work. The curriculum includes lectures on the reproductive cycle of dogs and cats, interactive interpretation of vaginal smears and hormone tests, breeding, pregnancy physiology, and postpartum disorders.


Program Structure

The program consists of seven days, with each day dedicated to a specific topic:


  • Day 1: Arrival of participants
  • Day 2: Introduction to the program, faculty tour, and lectures on reproductive cycles and breeding practices
  • Day 3: Pregnancy physiology, normal parturition, and dystocia
  • Day 4: Excursion to Lipica and Piran, with a focus on stallion reproduction
  • Day 5: Neonatal development, pharmacology, and postpartum disorders
  • Day 6: Artificial insemination in female cats and dogs, and a guided city tour of Ljubljana
  • Day 7: Presentations by students and a farewell ceremony

Target Audience

The program is designed for:


  • 20-25 foreign undergraduate students with a completed exam in reproduction and obstetrics, and students of the integrated master's study program
  • 10 Slovenian undergraduate students with a completed exam in reproduction and obstetrics, and students of the integrated master's study program at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

ECTS Credits

Participants will receive 3 ECTS credits upon completion of the program.


Competences

The program aims to provide students with knowledge of small animal reproduction, including breeding practices, pregnancy physiology, and postpartum disorders. Students will also develop skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.


Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are:


  • 60 EUR with VAT for students of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
  • 60 EUR with VAT for foreign CEEPUS students
  • 360 EUR with VAT for foreign students without CEEPUS

Registration

The registration period is from March 20, 2024, to June 1, 2024. Students can register online, and the selection of candidates will be made by May 15, 2024, for CEEPUS students and June 15, 2024, for other students.


Language

The program will be conducted in English, and students are required to have a B2 level of English proficiency.
