Program Description

The primary goal of the Microbiology study program is to provide an understanding of the living world, microbial processes, and organisms that are invisible to the human eye and are crucial for life on our planet. The program provides basic natural science knowledge (mathematics, chemistry, statistics, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics) and specific knowledge of microbial physiology, genetics, taxonomy, biotechnology, ecology, virology, immunology, and the importance of microorganisms in medicine.

Admission Requirements for Academic Years 2025/2026 to 2028/2029

To enroll in the Microbiology university study program, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:


  • a) Have passed the general matriculation examination,
  • b) Have passed the vocational matriculation examination in a secondary school program (e.g., pharmaceutical technician, chemical technician, cosmetician, environmental technician, laboratory biomedicine technician, veterinary technician, healthcare, dental technician, food and nutrition technician) and passed an examination in one of the subjects of the general matriculation examination (biology, biotechnology, or chemistry); if the candidate has already taken this subject in the vocational matriculation examination, they must pass an examination in any other subject of the general matriculation examination,
  • c) Have completed any four-year secondary school program before June 1, 1995.

Criteria for Selection in Case of Limited Enrollment for Academic Years 2025/2026 to 2028/2029

If enrollment is limited, candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:


  • For candidates from point a):
    • General success in the general matriculation examination: 50% of points,
    • General success in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school: 30% of points,
    • Success in one of the natural science subjects (biology, chemistry, physics, or biotechnology) in the general matriculation examination: 20% of points.
  • For candidates from point b):
    • General success in the vocational matriculation examination: 20% of points,
    • General success in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school: 40% of points,
    • Success in the subject of the general matriculation examination: 40% of points.
  • For candidates from point c):
    • General success in the final examination: 20% of points,
    • General success in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school: 40% of points,
    • Success in the subjects of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics in the final examination or in the last year of secondary school: 40% of points.
