Program Details

The Master's program in Preschool Education aims to professionalize preschool education and enhance the quality of training for professionals in kindergartens.


Program Description

The program is designed to develop a critical mass of experts who will contribute to the continuous development of quality preschool education in Slovenia and its integration into modern global processes. Students will acquire skills to develop the preschool education system at the national level, create concepts for preschool education, provide professional guidance for kindergartens, encourage reflective professional work, evaluate educational work, and lead development and research projects.


Program Structure

  • The program lasts for 2 years.
  • It consists of 120 ECTS credits.
  • The program is offered by the Faculty of Education.

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the Master's program in Preschool Education, candidates must have:


  • Completed a first-cycle study program in the field of preschool education with 180 or 240 ECTS credits.
  • Completed a first-cycle study program in another field with at least 180 ECTS credits and fulfilled additional obligations (10-60 ECTS credits) before enrolling in the program. Candidates must also demonstrate experience in the field of education and upbringing (15 ECTS credits).
  • Completed equivalent education abroad and met the same conditions as candidates who completed their education in Slovenia.

Selection Criteria

In case of limited enrollment, the selection of candidates will be based on:


  • Average grade of the first-cycle study program (40%).
  • Achievements in the field of preschool education (30%).
  • Entrance exam to demonstrate knowledge and insight in the desired field of study (30%).

Graduate Profile

Graduates of the program will be awarded the title of Master of Arts (M.A.) or "magister profesor predolske vzgoje" / "magistrica profesorica predolske vzgoje". They will acquire fundamental and transferable knowledge, enabling them to seek sources and methods for acquiring specific knowledge and skills required in their work.
