The program is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles and practices of dental medicine.


Curriculum

The curriculum for the first year of the Dental Medicine program includes the following compulsory subjects:

Introduction to Medicine

The Introduction to Medicine course aims to equip students with the fundamental ethical principles in medicine, including modern deontological guidelines. Students will understand the importance of health for society and basic public health concepts and approaches. They will also comprehend the development of medicine and the changing views on health and disease over time, as well as the universality, internationality, and interdisciplinarity of medicine. Furthermore, students will master the basics of information systems and tools in healthcare.


Course Content

The course is divided into four modules:


  1. Module 1: Presents lectures on national and international declarations, conventions, laws, and codes, providing students with an insight into the moral, material, and criminal responsibility of a physician.
  2. Module 2: Covers medicine, public health, and public health medicine, including the definition of health determinants and risk factors, an overview of health determinants, healthcare, methods for studying population health, and public health approaches and measures.
  3. Module 3: Explores the development of medical science and practice throughout history, from pre-medicine to modern medicine, including the achievements of Slovenian physicians abroad and the development of organized medical associations, medical education, and hospitals among Slovenians.
  4. Module 4: Focuses on data collections, electronic medical records, information systems in healthcare, signals in medicine, images in medicine, telemedicine and telematics, systems for supporting medical decision-making, information security and cryptography, nomenclatures and classifications in medicine, and computer networks and the Internet as infrastructure for scientific information.

Study Regime
