Program Details
The Master's program in Sports Education aims to educate teachers of sports education for work in primary and secondary schools, as well as in out-of-school sports programs for children and youth.
Program Description
Students in the program will gain in-depth knowledge of the broader dimensions of curricular theories, the laws of didactic phenomena, pedagogical approaches, and the organizational implementation of various sports contents. They will also become familiar with working with children with special needs and identifying and guiding sports-talented individuals. Through experiences and reflection on their own work in practical pedagogical training, they will become qualified to plan, implement, and evaluate the sports education process, pedagogically lead a class, and conduct research related to physical and motor development, pedagogical practice, and anthropological aspects of children's and youth sports.
Program Requirements
To enroll in the Master's program in Sports Education, candidates must have completed:
- A first-cycle study program with at least 180 credit points in the field of education for teaching sports education or an equivalent study program acquired under previous regulations in Slovenia or abroad;
- A first-cycle study program with at least 180 credit points from other fields or an equivalent study program acquired under previous regulations in Slovenia or abroad, provided that before enrollment, they have completed the study obligations essential for continuing their studies, as determined by the Senate of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Sport, upon the proposal of the Committee for Study Affairs, in the range of 10 to 60 credit points, depending on the difference in the field of study.
Candidates must also pass a test of motor abilities and knowledge if they have not already passed a similar test before enrolling in the first-cycle program. All candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the Slovenian language at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with appropriate certification.
Admission Criteria
In the event of limited enrollment, candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Candidates from point 1: according to the average of all numerically expressed final grades in the undergraduate study program, excluding the grade of the diploma.
- Candidates from point 2: according to the average of all numerically expressed final grades in the undergraduate study program (50%), and according to the average of study obligations essential for continuing studies (50%).

Program Structure
The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in sports education, including theoretical and practical knowledge. The program consists of 120 ECTS credit points and is completed in 2 years.
Graduation Title
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded the title of Master of Arts (M.A.) or magister profesor portne vzgoje / mag. prof. p. vzg. (Master of Sports Education).
