The Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management is a postgraduate degree that examines the underlying drivers of risk from a healthcare perspective. This course takes into account the risk factors during and in the aftermath of an emergency, providing students with practical skills in crisis communication and planning. Students will learn to act decisively in unstable and unpredictable situations, making them competent leaders able to coordinate effective, timely responses to emergencies.

Course Structure

The course consists of 4 core units:

• Disaster Risk Management in Health and Community Services (12 credit points)
• Disaster Planning and Preparedness (12 credit points)
• Disaster Response and Recovery (12 credit points)
• Leadership in Disaster Management (12 credit points)

Entry Requirements

To gain entry into the Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management, students must meet one of the following criteria:

• A completed recognised bachelor's degree in any discipline
• A completed recognised diploma qualification (or higher award) with at least three full years of full-time equivalent (FTE) professional work experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or leadership role
• Current registration within the applicant's field of practice with a nationally recognised professional body, with at least three years full-time equivalent (FTE) professional work experience
• For applicants working in a field of practice that does not have a nationally recognised professional body, at least seven years full-time equivalent (FTE) professional experience in a supervisory or leadership role
