Introduction to QUT's Diploma in Creative Industries/Bachelor of Communication

The Diploma in Creative Industries/Bachelor of Communication is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with foundational creative industries skills, facilitating a successful transition to the Bachelor of Communication degree. This course is exclusively available for Australian and New Zealand students.


Program Overview

  • The program is delivered at the Kelvin Grove campus.
  • The duration of the course is 3 years full-time.

Entry Requirements

  • The ATAR/selection rank threshold is 60.00.
  • These thresholds are the lowest adjusted scores to which QUT made an offer in Semester 1, 2026.
  • Assumed knowledge includes sound knowledge of English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C).

Program Structure

Diploma in Creative Industries

  • The diploma consists of 96 credit points, normally completed in one year of full-time study.
  • Students complete eight units (96 credit points) comprising seven discipline-specific units and one academic skills unit.
  • Upon successful completion of the diploma, students gain guaranteed entry into the second year of QUT's Bachelor of Communication.

Bachelor of Communication

  • The Bachelor of Communication structure consists of 288 credit points.
  • The structure includes six common units, a Communication major, complementary studies, and four QUT You units.
  • Students who complete the Diploma in Creative Industries will receive 96 credit points of advanced standing (credited) in the Bachelor of Communication.

Career Opportunities and Outcomes

Completing the QUT Diploma in Creative Industries, followed by the Bachelor of Communication, offers a diverse range of career opportunities. The Bachelor of Communication provides majors in community and public relations, digital advertising, journalism, and media and communication industries, among others.


Articulation and Advanced Standing

  • Upon successful completion of the diploma course, students are automatically offered a place in the Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Design - International, or Bachelor of Creative Arts.
  • Students are eligible for 96 credit points (one year) of advanced standing (credited) in the bachelor degree course.

Fees and Scholarships

  • The actual fees may vary depending on which units students choose.
  • The 2026 fees for the Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) are $13,400 per year full-time (96 credit points), and $27,000 per course (96 credit points) for international students.
  • Students may be eligible for scholarships to help with study and living costs.
