Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Mathematics

The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Mathematics is a double degree program that combines the study of science and mathematics. This program allows students to gain skills in mathematical modeling, analysis, and design, which can be applied to solve complex problems in various fields.

Program Description

The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both science and mathematics. Students will complete two separate degrees in four years of full-time study. The program includes a range of science and mathematics units, as well as elective units that allow students to specialize in areas of interest.

Professional Recognition

On graduation, students may be eligible for membership in the Australian Mathematical Society (AMS), ANZIAM (Australia and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics, a division of AMS), the Australian Society for Operations Research Inc. (ASOR), and the Statistical Society of Australia.

The program consists of 384 credit points, comprising:

• 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Science program
• 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Mathematics program
• 24 credit points of QUT You units

Science Component

The science component includes:

• Science core units (60 credit points)
• Science major units (120 credit points)

Mathematics Component

The mathematics component includes:

• Mathematics core units (84 credit points)
• Mathematics major units (96 credit points)

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, students must meet the following requirements:

• ATAR/selection rank threshold: 84.00
• Assumed knowledge: English, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)
• Prerequisites: None

Fees

The tuition fees for this program are:

• 2026: CSP $7,100 per year full-time (96 credit points)
• 2026: $43,600 per year full-time (96 credit points)

Duration and Delivery

The program is offered over four years of full-time study, with part-time study options available. The program is delivered at the Gardens Point campus.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry, students must meet the admission requirements, including the ATAR/selection rank threshold and assumed knowledge requirements.

Advanced Standing

Students may be eligible for advanced standing (credit) based on prior studies or work experience.

Deferment

Students can defer their offer and postpone the start of their course for one year.

English Language Requirements

International students must meet the minimum English language requirements, which include:

• IELTS Academic: overall 6.5, with no band less than 6.0
• TOEFL iBT: overall 79, with no score less than 16
• Pearson PTE Academic: overall 58, with no score less than 50
• Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Proficiency (CPE): overall 176, with no score less than 169

Student Services and Amenities Fees

Students may need to pay student services and amenities (SA) fees as part of their course costs.

HECS-HELP

Eligible students may be able to access HECS-HELP loans to help pay for their course fees.
