Program Overview

Course Description

An upper level Musical Theatre dance class that studies specific choreographers and dance styles as related to Musical Theatre within the realm of the "Aims" established by Brigham Young University. These aims include; spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, character building, and lifelong service. Skills for creating original dances for Musical Theatre are developed. Techniques for dance auditions for Musical Theatre are explored.

• Dance in Video: Dance productions and documentaries by the most influential performers and companies of the 20th century. Selections cover ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, experimental, and improvisational dance, as well as forerunners of the forms and the pioneers of modern concert dance.

Over 140 in-depth interviews with industry professionals including actors, directors as well as all backstage staff: lighting technicians, fight coordinators, stage managers et al.
