Objectives and Content

Objectives

The course goal is to give an overview of the concepts of Data and Computer Security, with an emphasis on fundamental security properties, vulnerabilities, threats, and mechanisms for securing computer systems.


Content

  • Fundamentals:
    • security properties, tools, and terminology
    • User Authentication, methods, and principles
    • Access Control, principles, and the role of access control
  • Computer Security:
    • malicious software: types, propagation, and technical, organisational, and behavioural countermeasures
  • Network Security:
    • the Internet, network-based attack, and an overview of countermeasures to network-based attacks

At the end of the course, the student must have the following learning outcomes defined in knowledge, skills, and general competence:

  • The student can describe threats to digital systems and their potential damage
