Program Overview

Erasmus Exchange Program

The Erasmus exchange program is the world's largest exchange program, funded by the EU. It provides students with the opportunity to study abroad in EU countries, EEA countries (Iceland and Liechtenstein), and other participating countries (North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey).

Eligibility and Application

To participate in the Erasmus exchange program, students must apply for a spot at a university with an Erasmus agreement. These agreements enable students to study abroad in any of the participating countries.

  • Students from all levels (bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D.) can apply for the Erasmus exchange program.
  • The program is open to students from the University of Bergen (UiB) and other participating institutions.

Erasmus Scholarship

All students participating in the Erasmus exchange program are eligible for an Erasmus scholarship. The scholarship amount ranges from 470 to 530 euros per month.

  • Additional scholarships are available for students with disabilities or from underrepresented groups.
  • A green Erasmus travel scholarship is also available for students who choose to travel sustainably.

Guidelines for Erasmus Students

Before departing for their exchange, students must familiarize themselves with the guidelines and requirements for the program.

  • Pre-departure checklist: students must complete a series of tasks before leaving for their exchange.
  • Post-exchange procedures: students must also complete certain tasks after returning from their exchange.

Extending or Canceling the Exchange

Students can extend their exchange period by one semester, but they will not receive the Erasmus scholarship for the additional semester.

  • Students can cancel their exchange participation, but they must follow the proper procedures.

Erasmus Internship (Traineeship)

The Erasmus internship program allows students to work or receive training in an organization, institution, or company in a participating country.

  • The internship must last between two and twelve months.
  • Students can participate in the Erasmus internship program in addition to or instead of the exchange program.
