Program Overview

Welcome to kite-mentoring, your career development program in STEM

kite-mentoring is a mentoring and career development program for women* in natural- and life sciences and engineering in their doctoral and postdoctoral phase at the University of Freiburg. Once initiated by the center BrainLinks-BrainTools, female* scientists from the faculties of mathematics and physics, chemistry and pharmacy, engineering, biology, environment and natural resources and members of our funding partners form now a network for projects, exchange, training and sustainable support.

Program Overview

The program promotes strategic academic and non-academic career development, personal development and networking in a wide range of professions and numerous companies we cooperate with. This career program offers a comprehensive development experience for participants. It consists of:

  • Trainings and workshops
  • Mentoring
  • Events, both in-person and online
  • Participants also have the opportunity to join company visits and receive coaching

Application

You can apply at any time without a registration deadline and remain part of the kite network as Alumna to benefit, to be part of the kite-network and to support current mentees. The program offer is free of charge for participants as long as you have or have had an affiliation with one of our supporters.

Mentoring

Guidance, support, and advice from a more experienced or knowledgeable person to help the mentee to navigate challenges and opportunities by offering advice and giving feedback. Together, we will decide whether and when a mentoring tandem is suitable for you and what support you need in your career phase.

Trainings and Workshops

The trainings at kite-mentoring give participants the opportunity to strengthen and develop their skills, broaden their knowledge and to improve their mental wellbeing.

(Peer-)Networking and Company Visits

The program promotes networking among mentees and with other professionals in and outside academia through network meetings, informative events, company visits, and expert discussions with speakers from academia and business.

Lunch Talks

Our online Lunch Talks provide a flexible way to learn and reflect during the day. You can join while having lunch, take a short break, or even participate while working. Some sessions are interactive, allowing you to ask questions and engage with the speaker. Topics are practical and relevant for work or everyday life.

Coaching and Psychosocial Consulting

Work with certified coaches and consultants dedicated to your growth and well-being. Mentees benefit from a wide range of consulting services that are available in addition to mentoring to help with orientation, decision-making, and skills development.

Program History
