Introduction to the INTRAMURAL ROTATIONS Module

The INTRAMURAL ROTATIONS module, coded as VMS5001, is a core component of the Veterinary Medicine and Science BVMSci (Hons) program. This module is designed to provide students with extensive hands-on experience in a clinical setting, allowing them to develop and refine their skills and competencies as future veterinarians.


Module Overview

The module consists of seven 4-week intra-mural rotation blocks, along with a Transition into the Profession unit. These rotations are designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of veterinary practice, including small animal, equine, production animal, referral, emergency and critical care, veterinary public health, and veterinary pathology.

Upon completion of this module, students are expected to demonstrate a range of competencies and skills, including:

  • Use of structured case logs and clinical skills logs.

Assessment Pattern

Assessment for this module includes:


  • Rotation-specific short answer questions (SAQs) that account for 60% of the final mark, covering small animal, production animal, equine, and veterinary pathology and public health.
  • A portfolio that accounts for 40% of the final mark, including global performance assessments, written assets (such as case reports and reflective essays), and other elements.

Qualifying Conditions

To pass the module, students must achieve a pass grade in the portfolio and attain a minimum of 50% in the online rotation-specific clinical assessments. Each asset within the portfolio has a pass mark of 50%.
