The BEng (Hons) and MEng courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

The course is divided into several years, each with its own set of compulsory and optional modules. The structure includes:


  • Year 1: Introduction to electronic circuits, computer and digital logic, engineering mathematics, and laboratories, design, and professional studies.
  • Year 2: Circuits, control, and communications, engineering mathematics III, computer algorithms and architecture, and laboratories, design, and professional studies.
  • Year 3: Fundamentals of digital signal processing, engineering professional studies, and optional modules such as privacy-enhancing technologies, digital communications, computer vision and pattern recognition, and RF and microwave fundamentals.
  • Year 4 (MEng): Multi-disciplinary design project, and optional modules such as fundamentals of mobile communications, speech and audio processing and recognition, satellite remote sensing, internet of things, and fundamentals of machine learning.
