Biofuels and CCU-based E-fuels Module
Introduction
The Biofuels and CCU-based E-fuels module is part of the Master of Science in Energy Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering, or similar programs. It is offered in the 9th semester.
Learning Objectives
Knowledge
- Have knowledge of biomass resource quantification and availability
- Have knowledge of pretreatment techniques for biomass conversion
- Have knowledge of thermo- and bio-chemical as well as catalytic conversion pathways
- Have knowledge of advanced biofuels
- Have knowledge of biorefinery concepts involving energy products
- Have knowledge of carbon capture methods, transportation, and storage
- Have knowledge of CO2 utilization for E-fuels
Skills
- Be able to carry out chemical analysis of fuels to assess their properties and applicability in the infrastructure
- Be able to analyse and evaluate processes of biomass conversion to fuel or energy, including mass and energy balances
- Be able to apply process modelling, integration, and optimization methods to biorefinery concepts
- Be able to evaluate the various carbon capture technologies and its applications in E-fuels, fertilizer industry, and other applications, etc.
Competences
- Independently be able to assess biomass resources dedicated for bioenergy production and to design systems of biomass conversion, i.e. biorefineries
- Independently to be able to quantify and communicate biorefining concepts
- To participate with expertise in an interdisciplinary field with specialists from other fields
- Independently be able to design and analyse carbon capture processes and CO2 utilisation
