Program Overview
Module Description
The module "Musik犘tetik" (Aesthetics of Music) is a course that covers music aesthetics and theory. The module includes lectures and studies in music aesthetics, focusing on music aesthetic theory, aesthetic theory, and music aesthetic positions and problem areas.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the module, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- Music aesthetic relationships and theories
- Perceptions of the phenomenon of music
- Connections between music works and music aesthetic positions and perceptions
- Aesthetic historical and theoretical perspectives
- Relationships between music and other aesthetic areas
Students will also be able to demonstrate skills in:
- Defining and focusing on music aesthetic topics
- Comparing and discussing different aesthetic and music aesthetic perceptions
- Accounting for significant music aesthetic implications in relation to music works and phenomena
Furthermore, students will be able to demonstrate competencies in:
- Presenting music aesthetic topics in oral and written form
- Relating to one's own and others' perceptions of music in relation to a music aesthetic understanding perspective
Teaching Methods
The teaching method for this module is specified in section 17 of the study regulations.
Examination
The examination for this module consists of a written portfolio and a reflection. The portfolio includes a number of texts, practical works, and/or working papers that document the student's work within music aesthetics. The reflection should address questions such as:
- Are there problem types that recur?
- Have any advice and recommendations from the teacher been followed, and if so, how?
- Is there progression in the student's work over the semester, and if so, in which areas?
The reflection must not exceed two pages. The portfolio is assessed by an examiner.
Re-examination
The re-examination is an internal examination in the form of an oral review of one of the assigned tasks in the examination portfolio. The task is drawn at the start of the examination. The complete examination portfolio is submitted to the agreed examination deadline and consists of the same components as the original portfolio.
