BSc Project: Thermo Mechanical Energy Systems

Content, Progress, and Pedagogy of the Module

The module is based on knowledge achieved in the project module Design of Thermal Systems or similar.


Learning Objectives

Knowledge
  • Have knowledge about the structure of flow machinery and other thermal flow system components used in thermal energy systems
  • Have knowledge about the thermomechanical limitations due to dynamic effects of these systems
  • Be able to understand scientific methods and theories in relation to the theme of the semester and be able to see the project in a larger whole
  • Have knowledge about the environmental conditions related to these technologies
Skills
  • Be able to perform analyses related to thermal flow systems and flow system components
  • Have obtained experience with laboratory work or real measured data series with flow machinery and flow system components
  • Be able to analyse and evaluate the found results from simulations and laboratory work related to flow machinery and flow system components by using digital tools
Competences
  • Be able to handle complex development-oriented situations in study and work situations within the energy technical area with particular focus on thermal systems
  • Have the ability to take part in professional and interdisciplinary work with a professional approach within the energy technical area
  • Be able to identify own learning needs and structure learning in different environments in energy engineering
  • Have attained the ability to transfer academic knowledge and skills within thermal processes to a practical problem and process the problem

Type of Instruction

Problem-based and project-organised work in groups with focus on self-critical reflection and proactive participation. The project may be discipline-oriented, interdisciplinary, or part of a multidisciplinary project depending on project choice.


Extent and Expected Workload

Since it is a 15 ECTS project work, the workload is expected to be 450 hours for the student.
