Program Overview
Energy Technologies Module
Introduction
The Energy Technologies module is a 15 ECTS project work that focuses on the development of an energy engineering product, a machine, and/or components. The module is based on knowledge achieved in the project module Energy systems of the future or similar.
Learning Objectives
Knowledge
- Have knowledge and comprehension within the development of an energy engineering product, a machine, and/or components
- Have knowledge and understanding within its functional principles and their application
- Have knowledge of how to set up a specification requirement for a product
- Understand fundamental principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, energy conversion, and storage
Skills
- Be able to select, describe, and apply relevant technical, scientific, and contextual models, theories, and methods, and through problem-based learning, carry out analysis and problem-solving of a chosen energy engineering problem
- Be able to solve the chosen energy engineering problem including relevant contexts and/or perspectives, including ethical issues
- Be able to make a critical evaluation of the relevance of the gathered knowledge in relation to the project work and evaluate the applicability of the chosen models, theories, and/or methods
- Be able to make a methodical and consequent evaluation of the energy engineering product technically and socially
- Be able to set up simulation models for selected parts of a product
- Be able to make practical tests of the product in the laboratory or apply relevant data from other experimental work
- Be able to analyze the achieved test results or the collected data and compare these with the simulated values
- Be able to analyze and develop technical solutions in a sustainable perspective
Competences
- Be able to plan, manage, and put the project work into perspective, including being in charge of planning of meetings and delegation
- Be able to make a systematic choice of methods for acquisition of knowledge in connection with problem analysis and problem-solving in an energy engineering problem
Type of Instruction
The module consists of problem-based and project-organized work in groups. The project may be discipline-oriented, interdisciplinary, or part of a multidisciplinary project depending on project choice. Documentation of applied data must be attached to the P2 report in the form of well-structured and methodical records. The project work is documented in a P2 project report and participation in a presentation seminar.
Extent and Expected Workload
Since it is a 15 ECTS project work, the workload is expected to be 450 hours for the student.
