Introduction to the Design Based Innovation Module
The Design Based Innovation module is a 5 ECTS course that focuses on the prototyping process, problem framing, and user-driven innovation. This module is part of the Entrepreneurial Engineering program and is taught in English.
Learning Objectives
The learning objectives of this module are divided into three categories: knowledge, skills, and competences.
Knowledge
- Understand the prototyping process and its strengths and weaknesses.
- Understand the concept of problem framing and reframing through rapid and iterative prototyping for developing a product/service business concept.
- Understand the process of user-driven innovation used in prototyping.
Skills
- Ability to use observation, interviews, and other research methods to collect data on user/customer behavior.
- Ability to transform data on user/customer behavior into specifications and demands and use this as a basis for problem framing and prototyping.
- Ability to apply prototyping tools to problem-solving, product-, service-, and business development.
- Ability to work through and document a process of design-driven innovation.
- Ability to frame specific problem areas and/or opportunities.
Competences
- Ability to plan and execute a prototyping process involving users, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to navigate through and facilitate an open-ended process.
- Ability to reflect on the process and outcome of the prototyping process within a business development context.
Type of Instruction
The teaching is organized according to the general form of teaching, as outlined in the program curriculum ァ17.
Extent and Expected Workload
This module is expected to require 150 hours of workload for the student, as it is a 5 ECTS course.
Exam
The exam for this module is either written or oral and is assessed on a 7-point grading scale. The criteria for assessment are stated in the Examination Policies and Procedures.
