Program Overview


Principalship Endorsement

The Principalship Endorsement program is designed to prepare future elementary and secondary school administrators, including principals, assistant principals, deans, and department chairs, who are highly qualified to hold leadership positions in K-12 schools. This program provides a rigorous set of experiences aimed at developing the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and competencies needed by educational leaders at the local and state level.


Program Overview

The UIS principal preparation program has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. A passing grade in an EDL course is considered to be B or above, while a failing grade is given for work below that level. Grades of C awarded during the effective period of this catalog will be counted, provided that an equal or greater number of A credits are earned in EDL courses. However, no more than eight hours of C grades will be accepted.

  • EDL 505: Introduction To Research (4 hours)
  • EDL 509: Organizational Dynamics (4 hours)
  • EDL 511: School Improvement (4 hours)
  • EDL 519: The Principalship (4 hours)
  • EDL 525: Supervision Of Instruction (4 hours)
  • EDL 526: Principal Internship I (2 hours)
  • EDL 527: Principal Internship II (2 hours)
    • Total Hours: 32

Additional Requirements

Candidates must take and pass ISBE Licensure exam(s) in their specific area(s) to qualify for entitlement.
