Program Overview

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens offers a Postgraduate Program in Musicology, which aims to provide specialized knowledge and research skills in the field of Musicology.


Program Details

  • The program is designed to last three academic semesters.
  • It leads to a Master's Degree in Musicology.
  • The program is governed by the provisions of articles 1 to 9 of Law 3685/2008 and the decisions of the General Assembly of Special Composition () of the Department of Music Studies.
  • The tuition fee for each semester is 550.

Admission Criteria

  • The program is open to graduates of Music Studies Departments in Greece or equivalent departments abroad (recognized by DOATAP).
  • Graduates of other University Departments or Schools of Higher Education may also be admitted, provided they have specialized knowledge or experience in the fields of study of the program.
  • Holders of a postgraduate diploma from a Greek or foreign University may also be admitted.

Selection Process

  • The selection of candidates is based on their academic performance, with a minimum grade of 7.5 required for admission.
  • The Department's General Assembly may, in exceptional cases, admit candidates with a lower grade, provided they have additional qualifications, such as a second university degree, a postgraduate diploma, or significant research or professional experience.

    • Historical and Systematic Musicology, with three sub-specializations:
      • Music Theory and Analysis
      • History of Music
      • Laboratory of Greek Music
    • Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology
    • Music Technology
    • Byzantine Musicology

  • The program focuses on the scientific research of specific cognitive subjects and the development of students' research skills.
