Program Overview


Program Overview

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Music Studies, offers a Postgraduate Program in Music Performance and Interpretation. This program aims to provide a Master's Degree in Specialization, which enables further studies leading to a Doctoral Degree.


Program Structure

The program consists of four directions:


  • i. Performance/Interpretation of Western Classical Music, with specializations in:
    • Orchestra instruments: violin, flute, horn
    • Piano
    • Singing
    • Composition
  • ii. Performance/Interpretation of Traditional Music, with specializations in:
    • Traditional musical instruments
    • Stringed instruments: folk violin
    • Wind instruments: folk clarinet
    • Membranophones: traditional percussion
  • iii. Performance/Interpretation of Jazz Music & New Technologies, with specializations in:
    • Saxophone
    • Piano
    • Guitar
    • Bass
    • Drums
    • Voice
  • iv. Performance/Interpretation of Psaltic Art

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, applicants must:


  • Hold a degree from a Department of Music Studies or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Hold a degree from any other Department or School of Higher Education, with specialized knowledge or experience in the program's subjects
  • Hold a postgraduate degree from a recognized institution, in a relevant field
  • Have completed a cycle of artistic music studies at a recognized institution, or hold a diploma with a grade of excellent, relevant to the specialization they wish to pursue

Program Details

  • The program duration is four semesters.
  • The tuition fee is 1,000 per semester.
  • A maximum of 70 students will be admitted to the program, distributed across the four directions:
    • i. Performance/Interpretation of Western Classical Music: 20 students
    • ii. Performance/Interpretation of Traditional Music: 20 students
    • iii. Performance/Interpretation of Jazz Music & New Technologies: 20 students
    • iv. Performance/Interpretation of Psaltic Art: 10 students

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit their application package between July 10th and September 15th. The package should include all necessary documents, and applicants must have completed their undergraduate studies by August of the same year.
