Program Overview
Introduction to the Postgraduate Program in Exercise Biology
The Postgraduate Program in Exercise Biology, operating at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, has been in continuous academic and scientific operation for over 20 years. After its re-establishment, the program has been functioning in accordance with the relevant study regulations, awarding postgraduate degrees to over 100 graduates.
Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the Postgraduate Program in Exercise Biology is to provide high-level postgraduate education in the scientific field of human adaptations during physical exercise. This aims to improve, maintain, and restore human health and well-being, as well as maximize performance. The program seeks to:
- Enable students to understand in-depth the biological adaptations during muscular effort, both immediate and long-term, and the factors influencing them.
- Equip students with the ability to evaluate and synthesize existing knowledge from specialized research in Exercise Biology and multidisciplinary approaches.
- Develop students' theoretical approach to research problems, including formulating hypotheses, designing and conducting research, analyzing, interpreting, presenting, and publishing data.
- Enable students to disseminate knowledge related to exercise and physical activity as means of promoting and restoring health, well-being, and quality of life.
- Contribute to research in the ergonomic and kinematic interpretation of human daily activities and athletic performance.
- Enhance the theoretical documentation of human biological adaptations during exercise and daily life.
