Overview
The integrated Master's program in Germanistik / Études Germaniques is a collaborative effort between the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and the French Université Bourgogne Europe (UBE). The program aims to provide students with methodological skills, historical knowledge, theoretical understanding, and practical abilities, focusing on the tradition and diversification of literary culture from the Middle Ages to the present.

Profile
The program's primary focus is on the ability to grasp complex issues, critically examine them, reflect on them in relation to other topics, and present them according to the specific requirements of academic argumentation. For German studies students whose native language is not German, the program offers the opportunity to deepen their language skills, particularly in scientific technical language, and expand their knowledge of German culture. Native German speakers can gain a new perspective on their own culture.
Admission Requirements
- Proof of French language proficiency (at least B2 level)
- Bachelor's degree in German Studies or a related field with at least 72 credit points in German Studies
- If less than 72 credit points are completed at the time of application, admission can be conditional, provided the remaining credits are completed within the first year of study
- English language proficiency is assumed, but not required for admission

Dijon Office
The Dijon Office manages and coordinates the binational integrated study programs between Mainz and Dijon, as well as trinational programs with Bologna and Sherbrooke. Staff members advise prospective students and support enrolled students with non-examination related matters from enrollment to graduation.
Student Representation
The Student Council (Fachschaft) serves as the students' representative body and provides information and counseling from a student's perspective. They can be contacted for support and representation within the department.
