Evangelische Theologie Diplom / Kirchliches Examen

The study of Evangelical Theology reflects the Christian faith of Evangelical orientation and asks how one can responsibly speak of God and humanity today. It deals with biblical foundations and the current shaping of faith, as well as the historical development of Christianity and the reflection of church action in communities and schools. Philosophical and religious studies components complement the study.

Admission Requirements

  • Higher Education Entrance Qualification: General or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification
  • Language Skills:
    • Latinum, Graecum, Hebraicum or equivalent knowledge
    • If these language skills are not proven at the beginning of the study, up to three additional semesters can be granted to acquire them.

Study Content

The study provides scientific knowledge and skills that are prerequisites for the profession of Evangelical pastor or for professional fields that require theological knowledge. The study is divided into:


  • Basic and Advanced Modules in the disciplines of Evangelical Theology
  • Philosophy
  • Elective Area: At least 53 credit points from theological faculty courses, with the option to include up to 10 credit points from other faculties.

Structure of the Study

The study is divided into three phases: Grundstudium (basic study), Hauptstudium (main study), and Examensphase (examination phase).


  • Grundstudium: 2 years, 120 credit points, including basic modules, philosophy, elective area, community internship, and ancient languages.
  • Hauptstudium: 2 years, 120 credit points, including advanced modules, repetitions, and elective area.
  • Examensphase: 1 year, 60 credit points, including the diploma thesis.
