The Master's program in European Financial Markets and Institutions analyzes financial markets from an interdisciplinary perspective (economics, finance, law, and economic history) and is based on various methods. The double Master's program is dedicated to understanding financial markets and institutions, as well as the problems of financial market regulation, particularly in the European Union. The program prepares students for a wide range of activities in financial institutions, regulatory authorities, and thematically related European public institutions.

Program Organization
The program is offered in collaboration between the University of Leipzig and the University of Angers (France). The first two semesters are spent in Leipzig, and the last two semesters are spent in Angers (France). The Master's program is modularized, and a total of 120 credit points must be completed.

No, please attach a current transcript of records to your application. The proof of a first professionally qualifying university degree (usually a Bachelor's degree) must be provided by the start of the Master's program at the latest, by submitting the Bachelor's certificate to the Student Office by September 30th of the year. If you have already completed your Bachelor's degree and have taken all the exams, but the issuance of the Bachelor's certificate is still pending, you can use the form "Confirmation of passing all examination performances". The proof must be available by September 30th of the year at the latest. The certificate must then be submitted to the Student Office by February 15th of the following year.
Do I need to register separately for the selection interview?
No, this is not necessary. You will be invited to the interview if you meet the requirements.
What does the selection interview look like?
The applicants selected based on their application documents will be invited to a selection interview in a second step. The interview will be conducted online by professors from the University of Leipzig and the University of Angers. The basic knowledge of the applicant in the areas of economics and finance, as well as in relation to financial markets, will be tested. Current economic policy events may also be the subject of the conversation.
Is it possible to have previous study and examination achievements recognized?
Yes, if these study and examination achievements are at the Master's level, recognition is possible. For more information, see here.
Is a stay abroad possible?
Yes - a study abroad is not only possible but also mandatory. The first year (the first two semesters) of the double Master's in European Financial Markets and Institutions is spent in Leipzig, and the second year (the last two semesters) is spent at the University of Angers, France.
Is it possible to complete the Master's program at the faculty and then pursue a doctorate?
In principle, yes, but the Master's program and the doctorate are separate. The Master's program in European Financial Markets and Institutions, on the other hand, offers the best prerequisites for a doctorate in this field at the University of Leipzig, provided very good study performances.

Basic knowledge of economics and finance is important for the program. If you can prove this, it is advantageous for the application, but not necessarily required. Missing knowledge in individual subjects can be caught up on in self-study - with a higher workload.
Can I take a semester off during the Master's program for internships or similar activities?
Yes, this is possible. During the Master's program, up to two semester breaks can be taken.
