Program Overview
Erasmus+ Study Program
The Erasmus+ study program is an exchange program that promotes study periods at European universities. With Erasmus+, students can study at a European partner university of the Faculty of Chemistry for one to two semesters.
Benefits
- Study periods of up to 12 months per study cycle at a partner university, including waiver of tuition fees and option for a mobility scholarship
- Recognition of achievements abroad
- Target countries: 27 EU states and other non-EU European countries
Participation Requirements
- Erasmus+ study program at a partner university within the 27 EU states or in other possible non-EU European states
- Enrollment at the University of Leipzig (for study or doctoral degree)
- Required language skills for the teaching language at the partner university or achievement of the required level by the start of the semester abroad
- Erasmus+ stay in the bachelor's program: completion of at least one year of study before the stay abroad

Erasmus+ Mobility Scholarship
An Erasmus+ stay can be funded with a mobility scholarship. The amount depends on the target country and the duration of the stay. Details about Erasmus+ funding can be found on the websites of the International Office.
Multiple Stays Abroad with Erasmus+
- 12 months of Erasmus+ 'contingent' per study phase (BA/MA)
- 12 months additional during promotion
- 'Contingent' is (temporally) individually usable for Erasmus+ (internship and/or study)
- Example: one semester at two different partner universities or one semester at a partner university plus a up to 6-month internship in the same or another country

Application Documents and Deadline
- Online application including the indication of your three desired universities
- Transcript of Records (can be requested from the study office)
- Overview of planned exams for the current semester and the following semesters until the desired start of the stay abroad (if not listed in the Transcript of Records)
- Language certificate for the teaching language - can be done, for example, through the language center of the University of Leipzig; for English, the confirmation of the language level in the Abitur certificate (English in the four school semesters of the last two school years with an average grade of at least sufficient) or alternatively the completion of the SQ module "Technical English for Chemists" (13-111-SQ1) is sufficient
- Justification of the study project (German or English; for ARQUS / Utrecht Network places, please in English)
Application Deadline: 15.01.2026
The deadline applies to stays in the winter semester, summer semester, and for a complete academic year.

Selection Criteria
- Language skills at the level required by the partner university
- Study progress; the stay abroad should fit into the study schedule and not excessively extend the study period
- If necessary, grade average
Procedure after Receiving an Erasmus+ Study Place
- We inform you about the Erasmus+ place for which you have been selected
- You register for Erasmus+ funding at the International Office (deadlines according to the central websites for the Erasmus+ program)
- Nomination at the partner university by the study office of the faculty
- You apply to the partner university
Fachflexible Austauschplätze via ARQUS / UTRECHT NETWORK 2026/27
In addition to the exchange places of our faculty, you can also apply for Erasmus+ places at partner universities within the European university networks ARQUS and Utrecht Network, in which the University of Leipzig is a member.

Application
If you intend to apply for an exchange place at a network university, you must first be nominated by the subject coordinator for our faculty, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Denecke. For this purpose, please submit your application as described above for the Erasmus+ application within the deadline for an Erasmus+ place (15.01.2026). According to the selection criteria, your application will be reviewed, and you will be nominated if you are suitable. Please note that after nomination, you must submit your ARQUS / Utrecht Network application to the International Office in a timely manner (15.02.2026).
