Program Overview


Overview of the Philological Faculty

The Philological Faculty is located at the Spiritual Science Center, Beethovenstra゚e 15, 04107 Leipzig. The faculty is led by Dean Prof. Dr. Benjamin Lucas Meisnitzer, with Dr. Stephan Thomas serving as the Dean's Council member and Annett Lutschin as the Secretary.

The faculty offers various study programs, including the teacher training extension subject German as a Second Language (LAEF DaZ).


Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the LAEF DaZ program can be found on the faculty's website, specifically for each type of school:


  • Teaching qualification at primary schools
  • Teaching qualification at secondary schools
  • Teaching qualification at high schools
  • Teaching special education

Study Begin

The study program can be started in the winter semester, with applications possible from two semesters after beginning the teacher training program or after completing a teacher training course (Master or Staatsexamen).


Application

Applications must be submitted by July 15th through AlmaWeb. Further information can be obtained from the Student Secretariat.


Recognition of previous courses

Previous courses in the field of German can be recognized under certain conditions:


  • The module "German as a second language in primary school" or "German as a second language in secondary school" can be recognized for the LAEF DaZ program upon request.
  • The module "Introduction to German Linguistics" in combination with "Introduction to the System of the German Language" can be recognized for the module "Grammar" upon request.
  • For students studying German under the old examination regulations, the module "Fundamentals of German Linguistics" in combination with "Grammatic Basics" can be recognized for the module "Grammatik" upon request.

Part Time Study

It is possible to study the LAEF DaZ program part-time, but students should note that the courses are spread throughout the week and not compactly scheduled.


Examination

The first state examination in the regular subjects can be taken independently of the LAEF DaZ program. After completing the required credits, the extension examination in the LAEF DaZ program can be taken.


Teacher examination regulations I

According to ァ 22 of the Lehramtspr魷ungsregulation I, individuals who have successfully passed the first state examination for a teaching profession, earned a Master of Education degree, or have been recognized as having equivalent qualifications can take the extension examination for the LAEF DaZ program.
