Program Overview


Overview of the University Program

The Philological Faculty at the University of Leipzig offers a comprehensive program in the field of German as a Second Language (DaZ). The program is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the subject matter and practical experience in teaching DaZ.


Program Structure

The program consists of a four-week block internship, which is a mandatory part of the studies for all school types. The internship is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in teaching DaZ and to help them develop their skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating DaZ lessons.


Internship Details

  • The internship takes place in a school in Saxony, another federal state, or abroad.
  • The internship is typically completed in the last semester of studies.
  • Students are required to be present at the internship school every day and to participate in various school activities, such as parent-teacher conferences, school events, and staff meetings.
  • During the internship, students are expected to:
    • Observe at least 28 DaZ lessons
    • Teach at least 12 DaZ lessons
    • Complete a portfolio with reflections on their experiences and lessons learned

Module "Fachdidaktisches Blockpraktikum"

The module "Fachdidaktisches Blockpraktikum" consists of the internship and a seminar on "Vorbereitung auf die Unterrichtspraxis" (Preparation for Teaching Practice). The seminar is designed to help students develop their skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating DaZ lessons.


Seminar Details

  • The seminar takes place in every semester (winter and summer).
  • The seminar is typically held every two weeks.
  • Students are required to attend the seminar before starting their internship.

Assessment

The assessment for the module "Fachdidaktisches Blockpraktikum" consists of an e-portfolio, which is completed during the internship. The e-portfolio is designed to help students reflect on their experiences and lessons learned during the internship.

International Internship

The program also offers the opportunity to complete the internship abroad. Students who are interested in completing the internship abroad are required to contact the program coordinator, Dr. Dorothé Salomo, in advance to discuss the details of the internship.

  • The internship can be completed in a school abroad that offers German as a foreign language.
  • Students are required to find their own internship placement abroad.
  • Students are required to complete the necessary paperwork and to obtain the necessary approvals before starting the internship abroad.
