Course Structure

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Nursing, students must complete a total of 360 credit points across 3 years.


Year 1

  • 120 credit points from Core subjects

Year 2

  • 90 credit points from Core subjects
  • 30 credit points from chosen Prescribed electives or minor

Year 3

  • 30 credit points from Capstone subjects
  • 60 credit points from Core subjects
  • 30 credit points from chosen Prescribed electives or minor

Elective Subjects

Capstone Subjects

Capstone subjects are required subjects in the course or major that help students integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they gain to solve real-world problems. Capstone subjects are often taken towards the end of the course.

Work-Based Learning

During the course, students will participate in one or more supervised Work-Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow them to practice newly acquired skills, behaviors, and knowledge while integrating theory with practice.


Course and Career Outcomes

The Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing may be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).


Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Critically review and analyze professional nursing practice and other information to synthesize knowledge to advance the profession both individually and as a community.
  • Employ evidence-based frameworks to inform systematic and comprehensive person-centered health and wellbeing assessment in partnership with people across a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Participate in or lead collaborative practice in intra-professional and interprofessional teams to promote optimal health outcomes.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic communication strategies in professional relationships with people, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to pursue ongoing professional learning and development for self and others through feedback, reflection, and action.
  • Appraise and monitor the health and wellbeing of self and others and revise practice as needed.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may take up nursing positions in the surgical, medical, pediatric, perioperative, emergency, rehabilitation, aged care, special care nursery, or community fields.
