Overview
The Master of Teaching (Primary) at La Trobe University is designed to equip students with the tools to thrive in a rewarding teaching career. Through a combination of practical and evidence-based learning, students will gain the confidence and knowledge to help shape the lives of the next generation. The program focuses on practice-based learning, and students will be embedded in their community from their first semester, mentored by community leaders.

Completion Requirements
To qualify for the award of Master of Teaching (Primary), students must complete 240 credit points of study in total, consisting of 240 core credit points. Students must also complete supervised teaching practicum (60 days) as indicated in the course structure. All applicants completing an initial teacher education course are expected to sit and pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Teachers prior to completing their course.
Course Structure
The course is structured into two levels, each comprising 120 credit points of core subjects.

- Evaluate literacy and numeracy needs for all stakeholders in a teacher education context.
- Design, plan, and implement a range of developmentally and educationally appropriate programs in Primary contexts.
- Demonstrate the capacity to act as a reflective practitioner across a range of educational settings.
- Design and implement assessment, feedback, and reporting strategies that complement and support learning processes.
- Demonstrate well-developed, professional knowledge and skills of teaching, including state curricula, curriculum theory, teaching methodologies, and classroom management.
- Investigate and evaluate current and predicted future practices in teaching, schooling, and education.
- Work independently and collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and supervisors in the preparation, application, and/or evaluation of teaching and learning experiences and resources.
- Appraise and analyse emerging developments in the practice and research of education.
- Demonstrate advanced written and oral skills.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). The program at the Sydney campus has national accreditation with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and complies with NSW-specific ITE accreditation requirements.
