Course Content

This online, self-paced course contains a series of 15 case studies that cover a range of patient pathologies and prescription medicine scenarios that might commonly be seen by a prescribing podiatrist. Each case study consists of a presenting complaint with medical history, diagnosis, and both non-pharmacological and pharmacological management approaches. Exemplar prescriptions are presented, and each case has a multiple-choice quiz relating to the scenario presented.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:


  • Describe the legal and registration requirements for podiatrists wishing to obtain endorsement for scheduled medicines
  • Explain the importance of non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions as well as shared-care arrangements to manage common conditions seen by podiatrists
  • Analyze pharmacological prescriptions using medicines available to endorsed podiatrists and recognized pharmacological prescribing resources

  • The Australian Medicines Handbook
  • AusDI or MIMS

Assessment

The course assessment comprises multiple-choice quizzes relating to the 15 prescribing scenarios, with a required pass mark of 80%. Re-assessment or an extension to the course duration is available for a fee.


Study Experience

Participants will have access to the case studies for a 12-week period from registration, and the estimated total time commitment, including assessment, is 30 hours.


Certification and Advanced Standing

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement. This course may be eligible for consideration as advanced standing (credit) towards a degree, and the certification received may be used when applying for credit for the relevant degree.
