Online Master of Mental Health Nursing: Course Structure

The online Master of Mental Health Nursing is a comprehensive program that can be completed in just 18 months with full-time study. Students who qualify for advanced standing status may complete the degree in less time, while others may take up to four years to finish the course.

  • MMH4CMA Comprehensive Mental Health Assessment (15 credits) This subject develops students' fundamental knowledge and skills in clinical mental health practice, focusing on comprehensive assessment and management skills.
  • MMH4MHD Mental Health Diagnosis (15 credits) Students critically examine psychopathology, mental health diagnosis, and associated co-morbidities, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • MMH4EPM Experience and Perceptions of Mental Illness (15 credits) This subject explores the complexities of exercising choice and control for people with mental illness, developing knowledge and skills in supported decision-making and recovery-oriented practice.
  • MMH5CNP Mental Health Nursing: Considerations in Treatment and Recovery (15 credits) Students analyze the nature and extent of social, political, economic, and organizational influences on mental health nursing care, engaging in collaborative critical reflection.

  • MMH5TEP Translating Evidence to Practice (15 credits) Students compare and critique approaches taken in the research literature to understand how others have approached research problems and gain insight into how evidence is developed and established in practice.
  • MMH5CPR Constructive Practice Recommendations (15 credits) This subject consolidates students' learning by preparing a report of the findings from a quality improvement project, developing evidence-based practice recommendations suitable for the workplace.
