Program Overview
Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
The Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry program combines the practical application of complex chemical methodology with the biological sciences. This major offers unique subject areas such as environmental chemistry and organic reactivity, while also building knowledge in biomedical physiology to create broad career outcomes.
Why Study Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
This program provides students with the opportunity to study in unique subject areas, building their knowledge in biomedical physiology and creating broad career outcomes. Students will combine biology with chemical analysis and advanced computational tools to unlock exciting developments.
Interdisciplinary Field of Growth
The program allows students to combine biology with chemical analysis and advanced computational tools, unlocking exciting developments in the field.
Hands-on Training
Third-year students with a strong interest in Pharmacy will have the option to develop additional hands-on training at Seneca College for one semester through a unique partnership. All students graduate with exceptional hands-on experience in analytical instrumental laboratories and exploring molecular structures with the undergraduate nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer.
Gain Valuable Experience Through Co-op
The Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry co-op is a four-and-a-half-year program, which includes four work terms. This co-op prepares students for their work terms by helping them develop professional attitudes and skills expected in the workplace, as well as building a toolkit of resume and cover letter writing and interview skills.
Careers in Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
This program provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge of molecules in their biological function and pharmaceutical applications. Graduates will have modern laboratory equipment training to develop market-ready skills and the knowledge to help advance human health, among others. Some potential careers for graduates include:
- Cancer researcher
- 'Green' chemical manufacturer
- Cosmetic Analyst
- Pharmacist
