The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree is designed to develop students' knowledge and skill in research and involves a research project in a selected field of nursing. It is intended for registered nurses who wish to prepare themselves for higher degree studies. The honours program contributes to nursing leadership in practice, research, and education.
Description
The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) program enables students to develop research design and presentation skills through:
- Critical evaluation of the literature and current research
- Participation in seminars
- Engagement with an appointed supervisor(s)
- Original research inclusive of:
- A small research project or
- Comprehensive literature review for publication
The results of which will be presented as a thesis or publication-ready document.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, graduates will have:
- Demonstrated an understanding of the philosophical and ethical issues that underpin the knowledge base of the discipline of nursing.
- Appreciation of a broad range of research methodologies that may be used to investigate the discipline of nursing.
- The ability to conceive, plan, and carry to completion a discrete piece of scholarly work relating to an area of nursing practice.
- Critically appraised nursing research in the delivery of health care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
- Demonstrated an openness to new ideas and unconventional critiques of received wisdom.
- Adapted knowledge to new situations.
- Collaborated with others in the pursuit of knowledge.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the discipline, appropriate professional knowledge and skills, and high ethical standards.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area with a minimum GPA of 5.0. In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.
English Language Requirements
All Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. The overall minimum English language proficiency score is 7, with a sub-test minimum score of 7.
Program Based Credit Limits and Currency
Credit will not be awarded within end-on honours programs.
Program Requirements
The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) requires the completion of 80 units of core courses.

- NURS4302: Reviewing and Critiquing Literature (20 units)
