Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Civil)/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Environmental)
Program Overview
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Environmental) is a combined degree program that provides students with the opportunity to undertake concurrent study in two areas of engineering and complete two awards.
Description
This program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree. It recognizes the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills. Students develop skills in the design and building of large-scale projects, such as roads, bridges, airports, major buildings, and water supply systems, while also gaining skills to assess and model the potential damage and long-term environmental problems resulting from human activity.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, graduates will have achieved the program learning outcomes as per those for the single degree programs.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme. The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission.
English Language Requirements
All applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. The overall minimum English language proficiency requirement is 6, with a sub-test minimum of 6.
Recommended Studies
Recommended studies include HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or equivalent, and the study of one science-related subject, such as Physics or Chemistry.
Professional Accreditation
The program is accredited by Engineers Australia, the Australian professional engineer's association. Graduates of this program are automatically enabled to join as graduate members on completion, and as student members during studies.
Career-Ready Placements
Requirements for qualification of this award include completion of at least 12 weeks of industrial experience of a nature acceptable to the College Board.
Program Requirements
For all combined programs, the core and minimum requirements for each single degree component must be met in each combined program. Students are required to complete a total of 370 units, which includes core courses, chemistry core courses, physics core courses, and project core courses.
Program Structure
The program structure includes a range of core courses, as well as chemistry, physics, and project courses. Students may choose to undertake certain courses in lieu of others, with program convenor approval.
