Program Overview

Master of Professional Engineering (Chemical) Program

The Master of Professional Engineering (Chemical) program extends students' learning in the discipline of chemical engineering. For students completing the 2-year MPE, the first year focuses on advanced fundamental skills and knowledge required for the practicing chemical engineer. Following this, and in conjunction with students completing the 1-year MPE, students are exposed to capstone level courses in energy and resources engineering while also completing an advanced level research program. This program produces graduates with the knowledge, and technical and professional attributes to provide innovative solutions to society's needs now and into the future.

Description

The Master of Professional Engineering (Chemical) program will extend students' learning in the discipline of chemical engineering.

Admission Requirements

Direct Admission into the 1-Year MPE (Chemical) Program

  • Graduates from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF 8) in Chemical Engineering (first program offering 2017) will automatically be awarded 80 units of credit.
  • Graduates from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF 8) in Chemical Engineering (pre-2017 program) will be awarded a fixed credit (to be determined).
  • Graduates from another institution with a Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF 8) in Chemical Engineering with Class 2 Division 2 or above OR a Newcastle calculated GPA of 4.5 or above.

Direct Admission into the 2-Year MPE (Chemical) Program

  • Graduates from the University of Newcastle or another institution with a Bachelor Degree (AQF 7) in Chemical Engineering AND a Newcastle calculated GPA of 4.5 or above.

Further Admission Requirements (if applicable)

  • Alternative Engineering Disciplines: Applications for the Master of Professional Engineering (Chemical) from graduates from a different engineering discipline other than chemical engineering are welcomed, but will be assessed for eligibility on an individual basis by the Faculty.
  • GPA Equivalence for Non-University of Newcastle Applicants: Applicants from external institutions will be required to provide transcripts of previous studies to allow assessment of GPA equivalence on the University of Newcastle scale.
  • Alternate Entry Path Incorporating Work Experience: Applications from graduates with an appropriate Bachelor Degree (AQF 7) or Honours Degree (AQF 8) in engineering not meeting the above requirements, BUT with significant relevant work experience will be assessed for eligibility on an individual basis by the Faculty.

English Language Requirements

  • Overall minimum: 6.5
  • Sub-test minimum: 6
  • All Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement.
