Bachelor of Business Program
The Bachelor of Business equips students for the ever-evolving professional landscape by providing them a comprehensive range of applied skills and knowledge necessary to thrive as future business leaders. This program offers an applied approach to business education, encompassing crucial areas such as innovation, business analytics, marketing, management, and finance.

The Bachelor of Business equips students for the ever-evolving professional landscape by providing them a comprehensive range of applied skills and knowledge necessary to thrive as future business leaders. This program offers an applied approach to business education, encompassing crucial areas such as innovation, business analytics, marketing, management, and finance. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to delve deeper into their areas of interest through a selection of majors and minors. The six distinctive majors available within the program cater to diverse career aspirations, specifically: innovation and entrepreneurship, marketing, leadership and management, human resources management, international relations, and international business. Students can choose up to two majors, or instead undertake one major and up to two minors, providing skills across three areas of business.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, graduates will have:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective skills to work independently and in teams.
- Critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of theory, models, and concepts relevant to Innovation and Entrepreneurship; International Relations; Human Resource Management; International Business; Leadership and Management; or Marketing.
- Proficiency in the utilization of information and technology in business.
- Business skills that incorporate understanding of ethical, economic, regulatory, and global perspectives.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme. The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission. These include, but are not limited to, Australian or overseas senior secondary qualifications (such as the HSC), prior tertiary studies, prior TAFE/VET studies, and completed enabling programs.
English Language Requirements
All Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. The overall minimum English language proficiency requirement is 6, with a sub-test minimum of 6.

Professional Accreditation
The Bachelor of Business (HRM major) is accredited by the Australian Human Resource Management Institute (AHRI).
Career-Ready Placements
Students will complete 140 hours of supervised placement, applying knowledge gained throughout their studies to acquire new skills and enhance their career readiness, while expanding their professional networks.
Program Requirements
The Bachelor of Business requires students to successfully complete 240 units, which is comprised of:
- 60 units of Core Courses
- 10 units from the Career-ready placement Course List
- 10 units from the Business Course List
- And one of the following pathways:
- Pathway A: two 80 unit Business majors
- Pathway B: one 80 unit Business major and two 40 unit Business minors
- Pathway C: one 80 unit Business major, one 40 unit Business minor, and 40 units of electives
- Pathway D: one 80 unit Business major and 80 units of electives
- Pathway E: one 80 unit Business major and one 80 unit Commerce major
