Introduction to Global Tourism
Course Description
This course introduces students to the study of the global tourism, hospitality, and events sectors, providing insight into their historical evolution and contemporary dynamics. Students will learn about the fundamental principles of tourism management within international systems, exploring societal trends and their impact on these sectors. Through the examination of key concepts and theories, students will gain an understanding of travel motivations, tourist behaviour, and patterns of tourist flows, as well as trends in destination product development.
Course Content
Topics will include:
- The history and evolution of tourism
- Contemporary global tourism systems
- Tourism product markets
- Tourist motivation, behaviour, and flows
- Emerging trends in global tourism, hospitality, and events, including sustainability and technology

This course is not available to students who have completed the following course(s):
- LEIS1000: Leisure and Tourism Behaviour (10 units)
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explore the dynamics of global tourism and the tourism system.
- Describe factors within the broader societal context that influence travel motivations and various forms of tourism.
- Analyse emerging travel trends and their impacts on destinations within the global tourism, hospitality, and events sectors.

- Individual Research Exercise: Written Assignment (30%), individual work
- Tourism Scenario Analysis: Quiz (35%), individual work, compulsory requirement (must obtain 50% to pass the course)
- Photo Documentation Report: Project (35%), group work
