Program Overview
Introduction to the Diploma in Languages
The University of Newcastle's Diploma in Languages can be studied as a standalone program or concurrently alongside a University of Newcastle undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.
Admission Criteria for New Students
New students who are not currently studying at the University of Newcastle and want to study the Diploma in Languages as a standalone program need to apply for admission to the program. The admission criteria are as follows:
- Domestic applicants who completed a secondary qualification (e.g., NSW Higher School Certificate or interstate equivalent) in 2022 or prior can apply directly to the University of Newcastle (no application fee) online.
- Domestic school leavers can apply via the University Admission Centre (UAC).
- International applicants can apply via the International Application System.
Admission Criteria for Existing Undergraduate or Postgraduate Students
Existing undergraduate or postgraduate coursework students can apply directly through the University of Newcastle to add the Diploma in Languages concurrently alongside their primary UON degree. To apply, students need to complete the Diploma in Languages concurrent application form by the application closing date.
Important Information
- Domestic students undertaking the Diploma in Languages program concurrently with another undergraduate program (primary program) must maintain a full-time enrolment of 30 units per semester in their primary program to be eligible for full-time enrolment status by relevant government agencies (e.g., Centrelink).
- As per section 61 of the Enrolment Manual, students enrolled in an existing combined program are ineligible to apply for concurrent enrolment.
Application Process for New Students with an Offer
New students who have just accepted their offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate program (their primary program of study) can add the Diploma of Languages as a concurrent program once they have activated their student account. They can complete the steps to add the Diploma of Languages as a concurrent program.
