Introduction to the Bachelor of Science Program

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree is an interdisciplinary program supported by five Colleges of the University of Guelph. These colleges include the College of Biological Science, College of Engineering & Physical Sciences, College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, Ontario Agricultural College, and Ontario Veterinary College.

Program Overview

The B.Sc. degree program is designed to foster academic success and satisfaction within the students' educational experience. The program includes a multi-pronged approach, featuring a prevention program that connects students to resources at relevant times in the semester, and an intervention program that includes a proactive strategy for intervening and advising students in first-year who may be having academic difficulties.

Prevention Program

The prevention aspect of the program brings together resources offered at the University of Guelph, including academic, administrative, and mental and physical health supports, into one spot. Students will receive notifications and announcements approximately once a week, with information posted on Administrative, Academic, or Wellness topics. A resource section is also available, containing permanently accessible information for students, divided into Administrative, Academic, and Wellness categories.

Intervention Program

The intervention program includes a proactive strategy for advising students in first-year who may be experiencing academic or personal difficulty. If a student is struggling in multiple courses, they will receive an invitation to speak with a Program Counsellor, who will discuss academic options and explore suitable resources for the student's situation. All information about the student will be kept confidential, and no instructors or other individuals associated with the course will be notified.

The Science In(Sight) program is a student support strategy sponsored by the Bachelor of Science Associate Deans' office.
