Course Description
This course connects students with members of the Guelph community to learn about their experiences in the Arboretum, a 400-acre nature reserve adjacent to campus. Students will collect, edit, and link these stories to physical signage in the Arboretum and a website as part of the Hear, Here collection of oral history projects.
Course Objectives
In this course, students will learn about methods for conducting oral histories and their role in conveying local historical knowledge. Each student will conduct an oral history interview with participants at the Arboretum, edit the audio files to focus on a single story, conduct archival research to supplement their stories, and prepare both audio and text files for the web.
Additional Information
No prior technological knowledge is required, as necessary training will be provided. This course is the first of two; however, there is no requirement for students to take both courses.
