Course Objectives and Outcomes

The course objectives are to develop basic listening and speaking skills for students with no previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. This is achieved by exposing students to basic sentence patterns through simple dialogues using Pinyin, the Romanization of Mandarin phonetics.


The learning outcomes of this course include:


  • Mastering "Putonghua" (Mandarin Chinese) pronunciation and intonation.
  • Fluently conversing in the most frequently used words and sentences.
  • Carrying out simple communications in daily life situations by using functional expressions.
