Course Description
This course examines constructs of gender and sexuality in Chinese history, following a topical approach with each week devoted to a selected subject or theme. The focus is on the late imperial, modern, and contemporary periods, and the class is inter-disciplinary, highlighting analyses of primary and secondary sources. There are no language requirements for this course, as all material is provided either in English or in Chinese with English translation.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will have a broad sense of the field and of important scholarly works that have structured its current state. The course aims to increase students' knowledge of the field, as well as sharpen their writing and critical thinking skills through the analysis of scholarly writings, Honours and MA theses.
