About Program
Program Overview
International Internship Program
The International Internship Program is designed for Carleton University undergraduate students to gain career-related work experience while earning academic credit.
Program Details
- The program allows students to complete an internship and earn academic credit simultaneously.
- The course work starts at the same time as the internship, and the assigned Professor works with the student to discuss assignment deadlines.
- There are no lecture hours for this course.
Course Structure
- The course is delivered online through Brightspace and can be completed alongside other courses.
- The course is assignment-based and helps students reflect on their learning in the workplace while connecting with their academics.
- Virtual internships are flexible and allow students to complete their internship part-time, promoting a balance between courses and other commitments.
Internship Hours
- Internship hours are distributed based on the student's availability and preferences.
- For fall or winter terms, students typically complete their internship hours part-time (10-25 hours per week).
- For summer terms, students can complete their internship full-time or part-time.
Academic Credit
- All Carleton students participating in an international internship experience with a Carleton partner are required to register in the academic credit associated with the internship.
- The academic credit complements the work done during the internship and facilitates connections between academics and work experience.
Program Requirements
- Students can participate in the program more than once.
- Students must complete mandatory forms for the University, which can be accessed via the MySuccess Portal on Carleton Central.
Internship Options
- Students can choose between a 0.5 credit course (requiring 150-349 internship hours) and a 1.0 credit course (requiring at least 350 internship hours).
- Students can also create their own internship, but this option is only available to BGInS students.
Participation
- Students can participate in the program during the fall, winter, or summer terms.
- The program is designed to provide students with a flexible and supportive environment to gain work experience and earn academic credit.
