Program Overview


Residęncia Médica em Psiquiatria

The Residęncia Médica em Psiquiatria at IPUB/UFRJ originated from the oldest Course of Specialist Training in Psychiatry at the University of Brazil. Initiated in 1969 by Professor José Leme Lopes, then Director of the Faculty of Medicine, the Course of Specialization in Psychiatry (CEP) served as the basis for the development of specific criteria for Residency in the area of Psychiatry, with the promulgation of Decree No. 80,281 on September 5, 1977, which officially created the Medical Residency in Brazil. Over the years, the IPUB's Medical Residency Program has been training specialists from all regions of Brazil.

Program Description

The services currently offered for internship to students of the Residency Program at IPUB are among the most advanced in the country, both from the point of view of medical technology and public health policies in Mental Health. IPUB offers a wide diversity of care devices and therapeutic guidance, with multiprofessional teams in Mental Health and related areas. The team of preceptors, supervisors, and teachers also work in stricto sensu postgraduate courses and specialization courses, research programs, and specialized services in assistance and extension at IPUB.

PROGRAMA DE RESIDĘNCIA MÉDICA EM PSIQUIATRIA QUARTO ANO

Areas of Focus

The fourth year of the Residency Program in Psychiatry includes several areas of focus:


  • PSIQUIATRIA FORENSE: Requires participants to have a high technical, scientific, and ethical standard, with numerous activities aimed at exchanging with other institutions, organizing and participating in national and international scientific events, congresses, symposia, and workshops, as well as training and training of its components.
  • PSICOTERAPIA: Aims to train psychiatrists in the area of psychotherapy, knowing how to identify and use clinical and assistance resources in treatments, integrating assistance, teaching, and research in the formation of the resident. Activities are divided into several fields of practice, including assistance to users with harmful use of alcohol and other drugs, psychogeriatrics, and eating disorders.
  • PSIQUIATRIA INFANTIL: Aims to train child and adolescent psychiatrists with an integrated vision of the biopsychosocial development of children and adolescents, knowing how to identify their deviations and use clinical and assistance resources in their treatments.
  • PSICOGERIATRIA: Aims to train psychiatrists in the area of psychogeriatrics, knowing how to identify and use clinical and assistance resources in treatments, integrating assistance, teaching, and research in the formation of the resident.
