Introduction to the Program

The Course of Specialization in Phytotherapy Applied to Clinical Nutrition (CEFITO) is offered by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), one of the most important and productive universities in Brazil, ranked among the best universities in the world.


Program Objectives

The objective of CEFITO is to enable nutritionists to use phytotherapy in clinical practice based on scientific evidence, understanding the pharmacological bases of phytotherapy and the available presentations in the market, in a critical, safe, and effective manner in different population groups.


Program Proposals

  • Utilization of phytotherapy in clinical practice with a basis in scientific evidence.
  • Knowledge of the pharmacological properties of phytotherapics and the presentations available in the market: mechanism of action, indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and toxicological aspects, interactions with medications, supplements, and foods.
  • Prescription of phytotherapics in a critical, safe, and effective manner, considering clinical and nutritional aspects in different population groups, life stages, and distinct morbidities.
