AIMS AND CONTENT

Aims and Learning Outcomes

The objective of this course is to stimulate students to conceive and construct a new architecture, speculating on the principles of the discipline. Students are asked to develop an intellectual reflection through which they may develop their own idea of architecture.

Teaching Methods

The course is set up as a design workshop, including constant discussions between the lecturer and students. It involves:

  • Weekly project critiques with printed drawings, study models, and a PDF presentation.
  • Lectures given by the lecturer and invited speakers, followed by discussions.
  • Visits to deepen the themes addressed in the workshop, such as the dry docks of the port of Genoa.
  • Workshops to make models, verify presentations, and build large models.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Students work in pairs or small groups to design infrastructural buildings or architectures in physical and conceptual relationship with the infrastructure. The location of the project is chosen by lot, and the extent and modalities of the intervention are freely defined by each group.

A list of recommended readings includes books by various authors, such as James Corner, Andrea Deplazes, and Rem Koolhaas, covering topics on architecture, landscape, and construction.
