DISABILITY PSYCHOLOGY
Course Overview
The main objective of the course is to contribute to the training of future teachers by providing skills in the field of the main developmental disorders. The workshop allows experimenting with some working strategies with disabilities in the process of school inclusion.
Aims and Content
Learning Outcomes
The course aims to introduce the concepts of disability, developmental disorders, inclusion, and to deal with the issue of atypical development, especially in relation to the school context. It also aims to provide tools for planning inclusive courses and designing Individualized Educational Plans functional to didactic work and consistent with current regulations.

The teaching allows students to gain theoretical knowledge on atypical development and face situations with a scientific, inclusive, non-judgmental attitude. The attendance of the workshop allows reading a clinical diagnosis and an ICF-based protocol and being able to describe the areas of interest in the structuring of the Individual Plan.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of typical development
Teaching Methods
Lessons are held in a participatory way, alternating short interventions by the teacher with discussions, watching videos, individual and group exercises. During the workshop, students can experience professional skills and practice with the proposed technologies and materials.

- Knowledge of atypical development in its various aspects
- Approach to assessment with psychological and didactic tools
- The role of the school and strategies to improve inclusion and enhance learning

Exam Description
The exam for attending students includes an ongoing written evaluation of the basic text and an oral exam in which the other texts and the results of the laboratory activity will be discussed. For non-attending students, the assessment will be oral.
