Program Overview


LAW OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

The teaching deals with the principle of equality and non-discrimination between women and men in the perspective of public Italian and comparative law, international and European Union law.


OVERVIEW

This course explores the impact of equality between women and men in both private and public spheres, including family and relationships, reproductive rights, gender violence, school, work, and politics.


AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, participants will acquire the knowledge necessary to understand the impact of equality between women and men in various spheres. They will be able to recognize and evaluate laws and court decisions related to gender equality at national, EU, and international levels.


AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of equal opportunities law, enabling them to recognize the sources of law that protect equality between women and men, understand the difference between direct and indirect discrimination, and analyze the role of ordinary judges and constitutional justice in protecting equality.


PREREQUISITES

Basic knowledge of Italian, international, and European Union public law is required.


TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of 36 class hours, with attendance strongly recommended. The professor will upload necessary materials on Aulaweb, and experts may be invited to address specific topics.

  • Gender and politics
  • Gender and work
  • Reproductive rights
  • The rights/duties of care from a gender perspective
  • The right to respect in partner's relationships
  • Gender-based violence
  • Gender and education
  • Gender-appropriate and inclusive language

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

For taking the exam, it is mandatory to enroll by following the relevant online procedure. Students who ensure attendance at all lessons will prepare the exam on individual notes and three texts taken from the textbook and/or other materials.


ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the topics, an adequate order in the presentation, and competences in legal and gender language. A preferential assessment will be given to consistency and completeness of responses, ability to apply information acquired to current events, and reference to relevant judgments and/or normative acts.
